We are pleased to see Sidmouth Lifeboat Station shortlisted for a 2026 RICS Award in the South East Region Community Benefit category.

The extension and refurbishment have transformed the existing station, bringing significant benefits to the welfare of the volunteer crew and their lifesaving operations. The improvements include faster response times for the Searider launch, enhanced training facilities for the crew, and a larger storage area for essential crew kit, with drying facilities to help ensure its longevity. The project also provides improved circulation for safer and quicker movement during emergencies, as well as a new dedicated casualty treatment area.

Thermal comfort and energy efficiency were key considerations, with enhanced insulation, an air source heat pump and underfloor heating helping to reduce running and maintenance costs. Drawing on Studio Four’s experience in lifeboat station design, durable Degafloor resin flooring was specified throughout the key operational areas, providing a robust surface capable of withstanding the demanding conditions of the boathouse and RIB stores.

The project was designed and project managed by Studio Four Architects Ltd, where members of the Dune Architects team worked on the project prior to the formation of Dune Architects.

We are proud to see the project recognised for the important role it plays in supporting Sidmouth Independent Lifeboat and its volunteer crew.
