Wells Lifeboat Station is a new-build facility located near the public footpath to the main beaches at Wells-next-the-Sea in North Norfolk. Constructed using a glulam frame with timber detailing, the station is raised on driven piles and protected behind a gabion spit to address the risk of flooding and increasingly severe storm conditions that affected the previous site. A precast concrete and steel ramp extends into the channel, enabling safe launch and recovery of lifeboats at all tidal states. The project responds sensitively to its coastal setting, incorporating transplanted marram grass to support local ecology, while “Launch a Memory” boards create a meaningful connection to the community by commemorating loved ones.
