Birnbeck Pier is a Grade II* Listed structure in Weston-super-Mare. Built in 1867 by engineer Eugenius Birch, it is an elegant cast iron structure and the only pier to link to an island. A lack of maintenance caused the pier to become unsafe, and it closed to the public in 1994. It has been on Historic England’s ‘National Heritage at Risk Register’ since 1998. The complex project to restore Birnbeck Pier is underway thanks to funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, UK Government, the National Heritage Memorial Fund and Historic England. Works include the restoration of the pier legs, and replacement of the distinctive iron latticework beams, projecting bays, timber deck and heritage bench seating. Contractors are on site and completion is expected in 2027.

Project being carried out on behalf of Studio Four.
